ASSESSMENTS
Neurodevelopmental and Psychoeducational
Stephanie has a special interest in neuro-affirming psychological assessment and in particular, the identification of Autism in females and gender diverse youth. Stephanie provides assessment for children and young adults from age six to twenty-five years. Stephanie also takes on a small number of adult assessments.
Assessments provide individuals with an opportunity to learn more about themselves and create plans for navigating the road ahead. It is a privilege to be able to guide someone through an assessment process and Stephanie takes pride in her warm and compassionate approach to assessments. Through open, warm and supportive dialogue with families and young people, Stephanie is well placed to provide recommendations as to what assessment journey is best suited to them.
Autism
Neuro-affirming assessment of Autism. This service is provided from ages 6 - 25 years, with limited spaces for adult autism assessment.
Specific Learning Difficulties
The exploration of learning difficulties involve a focus on academic testing and cognitive testing. Specific Learning Difficulties include the exploration of what people commonly know as Dyslexia; Dyscalculia; and issues with Written Expression (prev. known as ‘Dysgraphia’ - ).
Attentional Queries
Investigates inattentiveness and/or hyperactivity. Includes the neuro-affirming assessment of Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder in young people. Limited adult assessments offered.
Academic & Educational
Academic and educational assessments establish a profile of strengths and needs in relation to core academic components such as reading; writing; and mathematics. Following this profile, tailored recommendations are provided to guide young people, families and educators to create meaningful next steps. This is often done as part of an SLD investigation and sometimes to fine tune supports.
Cognitive (IQ)
A cognitive assessment generates an IQ score and a profile of cognitive strengths and needs. Families often seek these to support educational planning or funding applications. Typically referred to as ‘IQ’ assessments, a cognitive profile is typically included in other assessments as it provides further guidance for personalising recommendations and uncovering strengths.
Functional / Adaptive Behaviour
Functional and adaptive behaviour assessments are typically carried out alongside other assessments. These assist in understanding a persons independent daily living skills and create a platform to understand their needs for future planning. These are commonly administered alongside Autism assessments, particularly where families are looking to apply for support via the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Assessment journeys must be tailored to the individual and in keeping with their questions, their context and what they hope to gain from the process. The assessment snapshots above can be useful to guide families, however, it is always recommended that a collaborative one on one intake session helps to clarify and establish assessment goals.
Whilst each assessment is unique, families can expect that the process with Stephanie will centre on these core principles:
Thorough collection of developmental history and understanding of assessment purpose
Due consideration for the tools utilised, such as neuro-affirming and Gold Standard
Standardised administration in line with professional training
Liaison with key support people and stakeholders
Meaningful interpretation of assessment data
Feasible, affirming, and evidence-based recommendations
Comprehensive written report with recommendations
Timeliness and honest, transparent communication
